our words make worlds

Diaspora, identity and language learning SLAM creative writing

Description

MEMOIRS Children of Empires and European Postmemories, (ERC, n. 648624), in partnership with Language Acts and Worldmaking project and with the Modern Language Centre, is excited to announce the Workshop of SLAM creative writing hosted by MEMOIRS researcher Fernanda Vilar and Belgium slammer and writer, Joƫlle Sambi.

Slam poetry is at the same time a laboratory for identity, personal expression and lexical creativity. In this workshop, within the framework of Diasporic Identities and Language transitions strands of Language Acts and Worldmaking, we will examine the link between colonial memories and how languages move between different linguistic and cultural worlds in the slam writing and performance.

We invite language teachers (French, Spanish, English, Portuguese) to join us in this SLAM poetry writing, as it is an innovative exercise for a second language learning.

At the end of the day, we invite all the community to join us on the SLAM scene to see the performances.
